Before anyone gets too excited, no my title does not refer to my first day back at work for 2007. It's Australia Day and I am caught up in public-holiday giddyness. And then I turned on the ABC news...
Surprisingly, the news was rather "upbeat" (see How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days- Great Flick!!). A police officer will likely be charged with manslaughter of an Aboriginal Palm Islander man in custody and an American red neck who killed two black teenagers during the Civil Rights era has been arrested (talk about two Rosa Parks-esque land mark occassions). Despite all this, I couldn't help but notice that the ABC news presenter (anchorwoman- if that's a term we are still allowed to use) was solemn and downcast, to the point of being expressionless. Admittedly, this is a refreshing change from the sexy-come-hither-bedroom eyes I normally see staring back at me on the commercial stations (and hasn't Jennifer Keyte lost a lot of weight from her face). What I suggest is a happy medium. A fresh faced (not too pretty, not too serious) male or female anchor person, who smiles when Aussie Koala's are successfully shipped to Thailand and frowns when children are found dead in the boot of their own car.
I always did like that Ian Henderson chap... (to be read in Grandma voice)
I think this concern suggests it's time for me to go back to work, and find something bigger to worry about.
