Evening Officer

This morning everything was good but by 2 O'clock this afternoon I really felt like saying FUCK alot! Fuck this, Fuck that, Fuck (insert KMart lady's name here), Fuck everything! So I went home, had some chocolate and an evening primrose oil capsule, and I am feeling much calmer. (Sigh) Nothing really annoyed me today, in fact, Scrapbooking at lunchtime was good and a parent has offered to help- even better. Just crabby!
This week a girl I taught last year asked me to tutor her. I was interested because she is not the type of student who naturally wants to work (so it shows she is maturing and growing) and an extra $20 for petrol wouldn't hurt either. So I rang VIT for advice, who couldn't help. They referred me to DET, who couldn't help, but left me on hold for almost 20 minutes working that out for themselves. In the end sending me away with "You will have to make that decision for yourself but (i have taken some editorial liberties here) just don't sexually harrass any kiddies". So I went to my Principal, expecting her to say no- just for professional safety's sake, and she said that was fine with her- Bizarre! So I rang this girl's mum and we start next week. I am very happy that she asked me because it means that all my hard work with her from last year has paid off.
Another odd thing this week was a confrontation between a Year 9 student of mine in the library and a male teacher. It basically got to the point where the teacher threatened the student saying "I can look after myself in a fight if I have to"...eg: I'll bash the crap out of you smart arse! Puffing his chest out and towering over this student. I couldn't believe it! Then he demanded I send the student out when all I wanted to do was send him out! And all because the teacher misheard the kid say faggot to another teacher who knocked a chair over into him. Bloody Cranny mentality! So I spoke to the Year 9 co-ordinator and the Principal about this teacher's need for "dealing with difficult students" PD and then followed up with the student to say that it was appalling the way he was treated and that I was reporting it to ensure it doesn't happen again. I will definitely chase it up because there are too many chummy-in-the-loop teachers at my school, so they get away with everything. (I nearly used the old "get away with murder" cliche'- but probably not the best choice of phrases!)
The Careers Ed teacher at our school is still sniffing round me, sussing me out for next year and has dropped the hint (fairly explicitly) that they are looking for teachers to be hand picked for Career Ed positions- so fingers crossed for that one. That would improve my load!

Oooh, 2 other things. The school is paying for me to go to the State Conference (so SB, if you are out there- Hooray!) and they have invited me to attend a "Think About it" VELS PD, which they will also pay for with a whole bunch of leading teachers. Not quite sure how I got into that one, but hey, it came to my pigeon hole with my name on it, so I'm laughing! $225 bucks too!

Thought for today:
There are those who control computers, those who think they do, and those who are controlled by computers.
And I am very quickly realising that I am the latter- stupid, CD rom, keygan.exe, link, cut and paste crap!!!

Bye for now,
M x

Hey, this is great stuff - i had one of those days too - but I'm over it now.

Good news about the conference! I'm amased - Cranny must have some PD slush money stashed away. No one ever paid for me.

I must reply to your email -
