Since starting my blog, I now like to keep track of the things I read that are directly (or indirectly) linked to my teaching. Below are a few samples of things that I have read and learnt lately that I would not like to forget (at least, not just yet!).
VELS PD (July 2005)
Personal notes:
"At my interview I told the panel that I wanted to teach in a student centred environment. Student centred learning echoed through my job applications. How amazing that now the VELS curriculum is bringing that ideal to me. I bet that rarely happens."
"When asked what we would like out of education for young people we care for I wrote: Ability to read and enjoy reading; Ability to interact socially with others; Ability to confidently express themselves; Understanding of pathways for their future; Global perspectives/Global citizenship."
(Looking back now, I didn't make any comment that I would like such young people to be able to add, subtract, multiply and use basic mathematical equations for everyday living...I guess I'm such an English teacher in that respect!)
"I propose that when presenters "present", part of their preparation should be computer technical skills and that an excuse will no longer be good enough or acceptable". (Another struggling power point user!)
"I note that instead of writing down what people are saying at conferences and presentations (PD) I listen to my inner educational dialogue and make notes on those thoughts."
I will have to make this part 1 because 'Mulan' is on and I wanna watch it...what do you mean I'm 23....who cares...I also teach animation...I'm allowed to watch these things....I can't be prodound and literary and academic all the time! :)
Bye for now,
