An interesting week!
Got a call from school early on Friday morning to say that there had been a fire in my office. At first I heard conflicting reports. Some were saying everything was destroyed (either burnt or damaged) others said the things on my desk were fine, just sooty. It turns out that most things have been recoverable, but about 5 folders (VIT portfolio, handbook, BCI folder, English resources, Language folder) have been destroyed. Even my organiser is gone with all my results from Term 1 in it. Fortunately I have been making electronic copies of many things and have these as backup. I'm actually feeling quite okay about this all. More so than I would have expected. Occassionally I have feelings of trying to come up with someone to blame, but because I was in Queensland I still haven't really heard the whole story. Lesson to be learned- heaters and offices don't mix!
I'm a bit annoyed that my students have lost their work. Also the lunchtime activities resource box was destroyed. It is all the little things to replace that are annoying- like the notices to parents I had prepared and ready to give out. I am feeling very displaced- having to hang out in the main staffroom. Feeling like a "bag lady", carrying all of my possessions in those green, Safeway bags. I don't think anyone would even blink if I took a swig or two out of a brown paper bagged bottle! :)
Some of the positives to come out of this are:
New office which we get to design- proposed hot desks and storage stations!
No more ugly bricks! with little bits of yellow blutak stuck in them
All of Linda's stuff has been spring cleaned!
I have started writing my School politics article- because now I can't just hide away in my office. I have to always look busy in the main staffroom.
I am located much closer to the toilets and computers.
Now I have a better reason for having left CSC (when I leave) if I get asked at job interviews "Why did you leave your last school?" ("Because the uncertainty of not having resources to come back to each day began to cause me concern- eg: SHIT demographic full of pyromaniacs or teachers who don't turn heaters off at night!!!!)
Everything can be sugar coated! Everything happens for a reason!
Thought I might apply at Kooweerup if a job comes up.
